What are you wasting for? KIKOFF Christmas Gala Day

Posted by KIKOFF | 7th November 2017

On December 16th KIKOFF will be running the first of our annual Christmas Gala Day’s. The day will be chance for our 2000 players across the Football Development Squads, Soccer Schools and Kikstarters to celebrate all the hard training and achievements our players have made this past year.

Expect lots of Fun Games and Prizes, Sausage Sizzle, Bubble Soccer and our player Awards Ceremony.

As part of the big day, KIKOFF has teamed up with the charity Kick For Africa who are an Australian based charity that donate sports equipment and kit to some of the poorest parts of South Africa.

In the past two years, they have managed to send over 17,000 pieces of kit and equipment over, with some great support from sponsors including: Western Sydney Wanderers FC, Central Coast Mariners FC, Sydney FC and donations from many other generous Aussies at the KFA donation points located across Sydney and NSW. The charity has also been able to set up coaching programs with volunteers delivering Soccer sessions at Schools and Clubs in the Townships of Cape Town.

Apart from all the great work Kick For Africa does in their donations and coaching, they also want to spread awareness that there is a place that your unwanted and unused kit and equipment can go instead of the bin.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics,  501,000 tonnes of leather and textiles were sent to landfill between 2009-10.  With the Australian population at 22 million in 2010, that accounts for 22.7kg per person. This is nearly twice the global average of waste per person per year.

All this means that Australia sits second on the list of the world’s largest consumers of textile, new clothing and other textiles each year (ABC News.net.au).

This is also having a negative effect on our environment. Why not turn this negative into a positive and put smiles on a kid’s faces from some of the poorest communities of South Africa?

With that in mind KIKOFF in the build-up to our Gala Day will be collecting ANY unwanted or unused sports equipment or kit from our players, parents, friends, friends of friends and whoever else you think might be interested in helping the cause and spreading some Christmas cheer.

We at KIKOFF think this a fantastic initiative and would really love everyone associated with us to get behind Kick For Africa in the build-up to the Gala Day. So, we urge you to get rummaging round your wardrobe, have a look in the garage for your old Soccer boots and let’s see if we can make a mahooosive donation!

We will be sending more information out regarding our Gala Day in the coming weeks and speaking to the players in the run up.
