Sweat It Out Win Inaugural Musica Copa
WOW, what a day! The first official charity 5-a-side tournament for the music industry, Musica Copa, kicked off in style on 5th December at KIKOFF Fraser Park, Marrickville with Sydney based dance music label du jour, Sweat It Out, taking out the coveted trophy.
Now we are proud to bring you the official event video - featuring some of the Australian music industry's most familiar faces giving their all...and some.
Star-studded teams from Channel V, Elefant Traks, FBi Radio, Future Classic, inthemix, Ministry of Sound, Modular, Motorik!, Mushroom Group, Pulse Radio, Stereosonic and Sweat It Out went head-to-head in a knockout tournament to see who would win the elusive championship trophy.
It was a hard fought day, with Sweat It Out and Future Classic taking the top 2 spots from Group A, Elefant Traks and Stereosonic doing the honours in Group B and Pulse Radio and Ministry of Sound going hard in Group C. Motorik! and Mushroom Group snapped up the remaining 2 Quarter Final slots as the two highest 3rd placed teams.
Stereosonic then saw off Future Classic in an end-to-end Semi Final, with Sweat It Out knocking out Ministry of Sound to claim their place in the final.
Not even a heavy pre-final downpour could dampen the spirits, but tired legs were plain to see! A frenetic Final followed with the Sweat It Out boys taking the glory with a 7-3 win and the honour of Musica Copa 2013 Champions.
Organisers Paul Stix and Martin Novosel sum up the day;
"Musica Copa was everything we hoped it might be. All 12 teams competed hard, but fairly, the tournament was played in the best possible spirit and we raised $2,667.97 for charity. Congratulations to all of the teams and the players, with a major high five to the Sweat It Out Music! team for scooping the inaugural Musica Copa Championship Trophy. It was a fitting end to a great day as Sweat It Out's charity - St Vincent de Paul Society was chosen by the family of the late Adrian Thomas aka AJAX - co-founder of Sweat It Out and all-round legendary dude loved by the music industry and beyond."
Players including Krewella, Nick Thayer, Van She, Canyons, What So Not and Movement represented on the pitch, with Touch Sensitive, wordlife, Lancelot, Moonbase Commander, Slow Blow, Astral DJs, Frames and LUEN raving it up on the Musica Copa Soundsystem.
The day wouldn't have been such a success without the sponsors and partners... ARIA Week, Channel V, EMC, FBi Radio, FourFourTwo Magazine, Hobogestapo, inthemix, KIKOFF, Lightsounds, Magners, The Music Network, Recovery Water, Rock Posters, Smirnoff, Sol Beer, UBER and The Viper Room.
Who needs the World Cup, when you have Musica Copa!
See you in 2014!
