When we opened the doors at the 90 Minutes gym 2 years ago announcing we would be specialising in football fitness many people asked me;
What is the difference between a football fitness gym and regular fitness gym?
If you are reading this and are also curious as to what the difference between the training results you would get here at 90 Minutes and the training results you would get from a ‘general fitness’ gym then please, take 2 minutes of your time to read on!
Solving Problems
Our coaches have helped over 1000 of players since opening and the same three problems are highly evident:
- Players are getting injuries or pain preventing them from training or playing
- Players are lacking the levels of fitness needed to play at their full potential
- Players just don’t know what to do and when to do it when it comes to physical preparation for their own body.
General fitness gyms have not and will not make it their priority to solve these problems.
This is our only priority.
Individualisation
Age, training age, playing history, injury history, goals, genetics, lifestyle and playing level. These are just some of the differences in players that have to be considered when designing a training program.
We’ve found players training at their local gyms are either doing a generic training program they got online or a one size fits all group conditioning class.
Additionally, they may just be training whatever they feel like on the day or training with a PT who has a speciality in muscle growth or fat loss – not performance.
Players in our High-Performance Program go through an individual physical assessment and consultation before being provided an individually tailored training program.
Nutrition
Commercial gyms don’t provide nutrition plans tailored for match performance. We are fortunate enough to be partnered with Colour-Fit nutrition who provide nutritional meal planning alongside club dietitians for English Premier League & Championship clubs.
Players in our High-Performance Program and Junior Athlete Program are provided with access to Choose Football Nutrition – delivered by Colourfit.
Coaching
All of our sessions are delivered by strength & conditioning (ASCA) coaches who are certified in Football Conditioning (FFA), Athlete Performance (EXOS) and qualified in human performance (BSc).
More importantly our coaches have played, coached the technical side of the game (FFA A, B, C & Goalkeeping licenses) and of course the physical side of the game across three continents over the last 15 years working with over thousands of players at youth to professional level during that time.
Whilst we understand the human body we understand the demands of the game, the preparation dedication requirements, tactical and positional needs of players.
Recovery
When you train at 90 Minutes the program doesn’t end when you leave the gym or pitch. You are expected to manage your schedule off the pitch to ensure you are doing everything you can to be at your best come game day.
Whether it be improving sleep quality, recovery sessions, extra mobility work or additional training, everything you do off the pitch will be covered to ensure you can leave nothing to chance come kick off.
A Purpose...
We’d like to make it clear that there is no doubt general fitness gyms will have features and services that we do not offer, some specialise in body transformations for aesthetic reasons or group conditioning classes.
This is not our goal.
90 Minutes has been purposely built to help football players improve their match performance and reduce the risk of injury.
We want every player to complete our programs having the confidence and preparation to play the season of their life.
If you’re a football player and want to stay available to train and play all season long at the best of your ability whilst also learning how to train, eat and recover to suit your body and schedule then 90 Minutes Football Performance can help you get there.
