Not many people spend their Sundays dressed as Danger Mouse, throwing 7 inch foam balls at their opponents. At Future Dodgeball Festival & Tournament hosted by Urban Rec on Sunday July 13th, you can expect all that and more.
With live DJ’s, and people enjoying Budweiser beer from the sideline in the pop up “Bud Bar” this event is guaranteed to be a staple item in the Sydney sports & social calendar.
The cherry on the top? It’s all for charity. 100% of profits will go towards Project Futures, an Australian charity committing themselves to the protection of young women who are traded for money in parts of Australia and South East Asia.
This year, Urban Rec plan to host 20 teams, spanning over 6 Dodgeball courts, and hope to raise $5000 for Project Futures. Teams can sign up for $200 each or if you are a solo dodger, you can get matched with a team for a $40 entry. Thanks to Budweiser spectators or relegated teams will be able to come into the bar for a donation, and enjoy watching all the fun and finals from the sideline.
Don’t know how to play Dodgeball? Don’t worry. There will be Urban Rec staff onsite to teach new players the simple rules of play, while sharing the ethos of the 5 D’s of Dodgeball. Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge. Yep, just like the movie this is a very real sport, and in fact you can play it every week in many Sydney locations.
The entire day Kikoff will be hosting Bubble Soccer for everyone to try. For only $10 you can tumble, and bounce your way through a short soccer game that will leave you exhausted from both getting off the ground like a turtle, and laughing yourself silly.
There will be food stalls on-site, prizes for best dressed, and Tournament play off’s as the day draws to a close. The event starts at 10am, and finishes around 4pm at Kikoff Fraser Park, (100 Marrickville Rd) near Sydenham Station. To register your team or yourself go to www.urbanrec.com.au
