Interview with Perry Moustakas

Posted by KIKOFF | 11th July 2017

At Kikoff, we know our success is due to our amazing coaches like Perry Moustakas. And we’d love for you to get to know them better.

Today’s interview is with Perry Moustakas. Perry is one of the most qualified coaches around, and his experience as a pro footballer makes him a role model for football lovers of all ages.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got to where you are today.

I’m 34, and ever since I remember, I’ve had a football at my feet. My football journey has taken me all around the world as a professional footballer but also as a coach.

I now find myself at the backend of my career and I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences with the next generation coming through.

What’s an A License?

The UEFA A license is a mandatory level of qualification for managing in the UEFA competitions. It allows me to work as a manager/coach in the professional game. It also allows me to coach football worldwide.

Why did you decide to get your A license?

When I hit the age of 30, I realised that playing football forever was no longer a myth. I know I’ll forever be involved in the sport, so getting my coaching badges was the right thing to do.

Why did you go to Cyprus?

I first went to Cyprus to try my luck as a professional footballer. I was fortunate enough to get a gig and spent most of my adult life there. I’ve made great memories and friends, and also got my UEFA B license while I was still playing over there in 2015.

What was the most surprising thing you learnt while doing your A licence?

The most surprising thing I learnt is that the game is always changing and we’re always learning. All I know is football, but in reality, I’ve only just scratched the surface.

How many people in Sydney/Australia have an A licence?

i’m not sure how many people would have a UEFA A license in Australia. I only know a few but I’m sure there are ex pro’s that have also got their badges aboard.

What can our players expect now that they have an A licenced ref/coach on the field?

Players will continue to get the great service that Kikoff has always provided over the years. The course has definitely made me more equipped to help all players that come through our programs.

What’s the next step for you?

The next step is to complete the 2nd phase of my course and continue to coach kids and seniors until I eventually go for my UEFA Pro license.

Thanks Perry! We’re lucky to have such a qualified coach and ref on the field with our teams.
